In a problem-focused world where we have the nutty idea that spending hours pouring over and discussing problems will SOLVE the problems, Alan is doing the “time-out” signal and saying “enough”! His book is about Solution Focused approach and he includes recipes to facilitate solving some of our most plaguing business or agency issues.

For people with some experience in using Solution Focused, Alan’s book is challenging and refreshing in the same time. For me is challenging as I did not perceive Solution Focused as a recipe, up to now. So, I am trying the ingredients as it would be a new land to discover.
The book is brilliant. I swallowed it in one sitting. It explains in a clear and persuasive way how asking solution-focused questions can help facilitate change in organizations. I liked that you chose a workbook format for your book and made it very practical by including specific questions or exercises that could be used in various situations. I had lots of “aha” moments as I read through the case studies provided by your collaborators.
Fry the Monkeys is a great book for those organizations brave enough to focus on, and expand upon, what is really working. Inevitably, lots is already working in an organization, there are many with deep expertise doing meaningful work for clients and customers alike. Yet, stuck we get under problem rocks. Whole piles of them at times. Alan Kay’s gem of a book lifts the weight.
